Bio: Coach Alonzo Herrera is a 1988 graduate of McAllen Memorial High School, in which he played football and baseball. Upon graduation, Coach Herrera joined the United States Army, and served as an Infantry Mortarmen. After his tour of service, Coach Herrera enrolled in college and obtained his college degree from the University of Texas-Pan American. He received a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and a Minor in Kinesiology.

Coach Herrera started his coaching career at Raymondville High School, where he was the varsity secondary coach and the Head JV Baseball coach. An opportunity closer to home gave Coach Herrera the opportunity to join the Pharr Valley View High School Tigers. He served in many capacities on the offensive and defensive sides of football. Coach Herrera, also was an Assistant Varsity Baseball coach and the Head Golf Coach, during his 8-year stint at Valley View.

In June of 2018, Coach Herrera joined the Diamond Hill-Jarvis High School Eagles Coaching staff and assumed the role of Offensive Coordinator and Assistant Varsity Baseball Coach. In 2019, Coach Herrera became the Head Baseball Coach of the DHJ Baseball team.

Coach Herrera is married to his wife Cythnia and have two daughters, Azzy Raye and Zoe Diana +. Coach Herrera also has a grandson, Amari James.

Coach Herrera enjoys serving and being a part of the DHJ Eagle Community. The culture and climate of DHJ provide Coach Herrera with a sense of a home away from home and has genuinely enjoyed his opportunities to serve.
